Favorite Words in Spam
Occasionally, I see a neat word in spam email subject lines. A real word, not a made up one. Words that I would be impressed to see someone use in a casual conversation.
Today's word:hebephrenic.
A person who suffers from hebephrenia - A type of schizophrenia characterized by foolish mannerisms, senseless laughter, delusions, hallucinations, and regressive behavior.
I first encountered the term in Philip K. Dick's Clans of the Alphane Moon. A neat story about an asylum/sanitarium for those with strong mental problems, but so many of them that they formed clans along the lines of their conditions. There were the "Manses" (manics), "Heebs" (hebephrenics), and various others. A "normal" person is sent there for reasons I don't recall, and the others considered being a "Norm" just another mental illness.
